WHAT IS MYSORE CLASS?

Ashtanga Mysore is the traditional approach to teaching the Ashtanga yoga method, originating in the city of Mysore, in the South of India. It’s an ideal class for both beginner yoga practitioners and those with more experience or advanced practice.

A hallmark of the Mysore class is its flexible schedule—you can join at any time within the class period, up to 45 minutes before its conclusion. You're not obligated to stay until the very end; simply complete your practice, take your rest, and depart as you wish. The teacher circulates the room, offering personalized advice and hands-on adjustments to each student individually, creating an atmosphere akin to a private session within a supportive group setting.

During your initial visit, you'll have a brief conversation with the teacher to discuss any injuries or conditions relevant to your practice's safety.

We practice in silence on an empty stomach, refraining from drinking during the class. The aim is to generate internal heat, induce sweating, improve circulation, aid the body's detoxification process, and enhance digestion and nervous system function.

But don’t worry about all these right away. Simply come as you are and immerse yourself in the transformative power of the practice.

All you need to begin is curiosity and a willingness to show up. The rest will unfold with time and dedication.

We very much look forward to welcoming you to the ROOM."

Tina Rumenović, the founder of Ashtanga Yoga Room Amsterdam was born in Croatia where she followed her very first yoga class in 2007, then moved to the Netherlands (for love) in 2010. She has practiced several dynamic yoga styles throughout her yogic explorations but has really fallen in love with Ashtanga yoga method. She has been a dedicated Ashtanga yoga practitioner and has kept her daily practice for nearly 10 years now, but has started diving deeper into the practice and study of yoga more than 17 years ago.

Her daily sadhana (spiritual practice) and her teachers David Robson and Jelena Vesić are her main source of knowledge and inspiration. They are direct students of Sharath Jois. Tina says: “I have studied with many reputable ashtanga teachers throughout my study of Ashtanga, but have found a deep human connection and a real inspring teacher/student relationship with David and Jelena and can proudly call them my teachers.”

Tina has been practicing regularly with David and Jelena since 2019. She has done many trainings, retreats, workshops and intensives with them and can confidently share this knowledge further with her own students.

Since 2022 Tina started to assist David & Jelena at intensives and retreats around the world and continues to learn regularly from them as much as possible making several trips per year to practice with them in person, as well as weekly online practice when they are not traveling.

In February 2024 Tina made her first trip to Mysore, India, to practice at the source of Ashtanga, with Sharath Jois himself, at the Sharath Yoga Centre and is determent to keep making those trips to learn from the source as often as possible. Sharatji is the current Ashtanga Yoga lineage holder and the main authority in Ashtanga yoga. He is the grandson of Pattabhi Jois, the founder of Ashtanga Yoga.

Tina started to teach yoga in 2014, and has been running a daily Mysore program in Amsterdam since 2019.

“I look forward to sharing my decade long study of Ashtanga Yoga, and can’t wait to meet you and guide you on your path of discovering this practice and its depths as well. “ - Tina

What Tina’s students say:

“Tina’s dedication to yoga and to her students is one of a kind. She teaches with kindness, patience and years of experience. I know Tina since 2016 when we started out as colleagues yoga teachers and later on Tina became my teacher. Having worked in the yoga industry in Amsterdam for years myself, I can say with confidence that Tina is exceptional as a teacher. I strongly recommend anyone, who wants to experience the traditional Ashtanga Mysore style, to practice with Tina.”

  • Daria Mnych, yoga therapist

“Tina introduced me to the world of Ashtanga yoga over five years ago. Her teaching combines tenacity with compassion, pushing me to grow while providing endless support. Tina's warmth and care shine through in every class. Prepare to be challenged and nurtured – just leave laziness at the door! 🙂

  • Tim B

“I was fortunate to meet Tina during a fitness boot camp amidst the pandemic. We spoke about her approach to yoga and she convinced me to try a class in the Ashtanga Mysore style she teaches - which at the time seemed crazy to me! From the first session, however, it became clear that Mysore style was exactly what I had been searching for in my yoga practice.

Tina's teachings are deeply rooted in the traditions from Jois's shala in Mysore, which brings authenticity and depth to her classes. She's one of the few teachers who makes me feel completely safe, whether she's adjusting me or just observing from a distance. Although sometimes strict, her approach is always from a place of mentorship. She knows exactly when to challenge us and when to tone it down. I trust her completely, even during my pregnancy.

For anyone seeking a true Ashtanga Mysore experience, I highly recommend Tina. Her dedication and expertise not only honour the traditions of yoga but also adapt to meet individual needs and our contemporary lives.”

  • Natalia A

“Tina is the type of yoga teacher you’d wish on anyone. She is dedicated, knowledgeable and oh so loving. I met Tina in a very difficult time in my life and I am forever grateful for what she’s done - and is still doing - for me. She has this special talent of making you feel safe and valued, while at the same time giving you a little (or big) push when you need it. She teaches me to be compassionate and hold space for myself. She challenges me when I need it, building my confidence back up. She is such a big inspiration and the most lovely human being. I would recommend anyone to start a mysore practice, and I would recommend doing it with Tina.”

  • Lotte W

“Tina is undoubtedly the most dedicated and well-informed Ashtanga teacher in Amsterdam. She respects tradition without being dogmatic.”
